Poultry talk 2: teaching school a few days before thanksgiving

1.  Turkeys and Scarecrows Advertising Boards

I told to go home a poultry for the children to brighten using their parents in whatever way they chose, and so the children introduced it well to talk about.  They told the category regarding their turkeys and attempted to create by what was around the turkeys now.  I place the turkeys, with some cute scarecrows we made, on the bulletin board.  It switched out pretty cute!  Sorry I am passing this concept onto you so late, but maybe technology-not only the coming year!  I’m such as the master today like a download free!  The coming year I’ll attempt to range from the directions for that scarecrow too.  However , I’ve a lot of suggestions to pass on that my blogs get Far too lengthy- after which I suspect that people do not have time for you to read them completely through!

Pilgrim Boy & Girl Freebie

2.  Pilgrim Boy and Girl Color Word Worksheets

I made the decision to go forward and then try to draw a pilgrim girl and boy to ensure that I could increase my assortment of clip art which i can use to create things.  And my first couple of creations are a handful of color word worksheets for that holiday!  Hopefully, it isn’t far too late not less than a couple of individuals to utilize them.  Otherwise, maybe it can save you them for the coming year.  I copied mine on colored xerox paper so the children could color the white-colored parts white-colored as opposed to just skip them.  I additionally copied the lady somewhere and also the boy alternatively, so the kids could perform the person of their choice, or perhaps each side if they’re quick workers!  We did them once the kids were carried out with their pilgrim hats, that are a pleasant project but instead quick.  Therefore it was nice to allow them to have another thing to operate on once they counseled me completed with their hats!

3.  Thanksgiving Led Drawing

A couple of days ago I authored a bit about led drawing with this farm animal unit.  I enjoy do led drawing, and so i made it happen again now with my class!  The secret would be to describe each contour around the kids, one piece at any given time.  Let them know they cannot draw “ahead” individuals, or you know what is originating next.  They have to wait that you should provide the directions before drawing each bit.  The kids will always be so happy with their creations! Here’s my instructions for that Pilgrim Boy, Girl and Poultry to test on your own!

4.   A Thanksgiving Seem Effects Story

I’ve been searching for a terrific way to tell the storyline from the first Thanksgiving and the kids positively involved, also it happened in my experience that the “Sound Effects Story” may be only the factor that people need!  And So I made the decision to go forward and write one, and i’m including it as being a totally free download!  This should be the actual story from the first Thanksgiving, so it’s a non-fiction story with a few child created seem effects added in it for entertainment as well as for focus.

My Thanksgiving Seem Effects Story

If you’re not really acquainted with the word, “Sound Effects Story,” this is a quick explanation:  Inside a “sound effects story,” the kids are meant to listen carefully towards the readers and listen for several words to become stated.  When these test is read, the kids should result in the indicated seem and/or movement.  This can help to capture and the interest from the active and auditory learners.

5.  F-I-G-H-T, We don’t fight!!

My children are LOVING the “Fight” song on Sing and Spell Volume 5!  My goodness, will they like to boogie or WHAT?  And, it’s a great indication of how to proceed when conflicts arise!  Just consider the lyrics:

F-I-G-H-T, We don’t fight!

F-I-G-H-T, We don’t fight!

Discuss it.  Leave.

Find another game to experience!

Discuss it.  Leave.

Find another game to experience!

F-I-G-H-T, We don’t fight!

F-I-G-H-T, We don’t fight!

Now, when there’s an issue between some children, we attempt to determine the things they might have done differently by taking into consideration the song.  Actually, I’ve got a confession to create.  I didn’t need these to learn how to spell or browse the word, “fight.”  I simply wanted an audio lesson which i can use to help remind them of some different ways of conflict resolution, for this reason I wrote it.  I figured from the idea a long time ago as you’re watching our local high school’s football games as well as their cheerleaders chant, “F-I-G-H-T! Go, fight, win!”  : )

Why are so many of our teachers and schools so successful? John Hattie at TEDxNorrkoping

COMMENTS:

Cbreezy: The problem is not the teachers. It the ENTIRE education system. We need to redo everything from what's being taught to how it's being taught and everything in between. We need a new model for the 21 century.

wordweaving: Why is it that this only has 23 000 observations when Sir Ken Robinson's talks figure in the millions? Where Robinson waxes humorously and profoundly lyrical on what 'should be taught', Hattie waxes less humorously, but with equal profundity, on 'how to teach'. Both talks are critically fundamental and Hattie's work MUST find its way to the fore of the education debate, just as Robinson's has. No more snake oil.

Mark Evasion: +wordweaving People, especially many teachers, are scared of change and having their ego challenged in my opinion..

Roxanne Christer: In my experience it is not the teachers who are afraid of change but those who hold the purse strings and control the curriculum.

Kent Lundgren: Learning from Past to Design the Future…

Mv Cisar: The. Neuro science behind the learning bears out repeated practice develops skills.

Beth Crastnopol: It is so wonderful to finally have a strong bank of research that identifies what goes into good teaching.

Ray Maritz: Patent nonsense! Selling the socialist agenda. Kids are ground through this system for 12 years and then can barely function in minimum wage jobs. If ability grouping for one is such a bad idea, with no impact I'd like to see this extended to the coaches of Olympic teams. Have them coach teams with no regard to ability and assess their "impact" at the end. Clearly the ploddders who needed to lose a kilo as well as the potential gold medallists will suffer. It is this hatred for freedom that drives this illogical drivel. When logic no longer applies, because "statistics".

writingme: What's your problem with socialism?

Arum Flower Surname: All the bullshit.

Helga Baldursdottir: good talk

Ky Duyen Vo: so the main ideas I remember is teachers should know the starting points of each student and brand new teachers need to bring their "expertise" and experiences onto a debate with professional seniors.

Madiha Ahmed: food for thought. thank you found it useful

ronv11: doctors do not have to agree to do no harm\n\nHIPPOCRATIC OATH: MODERN VERSION\nI swear to fulfill, to the best of my ability and judgment, this covenant:\nI will respect the hard-won scientific gains of those physicians in whose steps I walk, and gladly share such knowledge as is mine with those who are to follow.\nI will apply, for the benefit of the sick, all measures [that] are required, avoiding those twin traps of overtreatment and therapeutic nihilism.\nI will remember that there is art to medicine as well as science, and that warmth, sympathy, and understanding may outweigh the surgeon's knife or the chemist's drug.\nI will not be ashamed to say "I know not," nor will I fail to call in my colleagues when the skills of another are needed for a patient's recovery.\nI will respect the privacy of my patients, for their problems are not disclosed to me that the world may know. Most especially must I tread with care in matters of life and death. If it is given me to save a life, all thanks. But it may also be within my power to take a life; this awesome responsibility must be faced with great humbleness and awareness of my own frailty. Above all, I must not play at God.\nI will remember that I do not treat a fever chart, a cancerous growth, but a sick human being, whose illness may affect the person's family and economic stability. My responsibility includes these related problems, if I am to care adequately for the sick.\nI will prevent disease whenever I can, for prevention is preferable to cure.\nI will remember that I remain a member of society, with special obligations to all my fellow human beings, those sound of mind and body as well as the infirm.\nIf I do not violate this oath, may I enjoy life and art, respected while I live and remembered with affection thereafter. May I always act so as to preserve the finest traditions of my calling and may I long experience the joy of healing those who seek my help.\n—Written in 1964 by Louis Lasagna, Academic Dean of the School of Medicine at Tufts University, and used in many medical schools today.\n \n\nFirst do no harm ( wikipedia)\nIt is a popular misconception that the phrase "First do no harm" (Latin: Primum non nocere) is a part of the Hippocratic oath. Strictly speaking, the phrase does not appear in the oath, though an equivalent phrase is found in Epidemics, Book I, of the Hippocratic school: "Practice two things in your dealings with disease: either help or do not harm the patient". [5] The exact phrase is believed to have originated with the 19th-century surgeon Thomas Inman.[6]\n\nHint: The only true answer is you have to care. ( not only about yourself)\n\nWell professor you were wrong about doctor's what else are you wrong about?

ronv11: +ronv11 \nby the way after teaching for 20 years, have you , let say even followed up on 5% of your students, to see if your teaching prepared them for the future? Grades in a book don't mean anything. Its the use of what you know , and how you use it that counts. \n\n\nThats why more and more people are homeschooling their children, the schools are failing the children. Of course the schools blame everyone else for the problems. We should have a school voucher system, most schools and teachers would hate that. It would mean if the public did not like the job the school system was doing, poor run schools, and lazy teachers would go out of business.\n\n\n(Me for president )

Gordon Walker: This guy is a legend in his own mind and clearly holds a disdain for teachers and education. Therapy may help, but he'll probably think he knows more than the therapist…

Sunny adams: I have only one word to describe is world class.\nThank You Sir.

Tere's educational research: Very interesting to hear John Hattie talk about effect size and good to hear the good news about teacher impact

Richard Keys: I believe John Hattie to be correct when explaining his research about effect size and what has the greatest impact on student achievement. However, I do not think that we can look at any one of these 200 items he mentions in isolation. For example, if school structure has little impact by itself, how can a structure better support teacher collaboration which has a large impact on student achievement. All of the items that are discussed play a role in student achievement, he expresses that clearly at the beginning. It is then the job of the leadership group to identify what needs to be done with school structure, attributes of students, and programs to allow for: better teacher collaboration, more explicit success criteria, a culture that does not fear failure, increased formative assessments data, the balance of content knowledge and higher order thinking, and increased opportunity for practice. All of this creates another essential element to increasing student achievement..reflection.
